frequently asked questions

How soon do I need to have my pharmaceutical waste collected?

Pharmaceutical waste on a farm should always be collected within a 12-month period. As soon as your bin is full, give us a call to arrange a date for collection. We will send you a new one so you can store more pharmaceutical waste safely in the mean time.

Are there any extra costs to be aware of?

No, there are no hidden charges with Pharm-Binz. Everything is included in the price we quote you at the beginning. When you need a new bin these will be couriered out to you and you will be charged for delivery.

How much can I put in a Pharm-Bin?

For the 50 litre bin, the maximum weight is 15kg. The sharps bin and the pharmaceutical bag can be filled, and the bag must be tied or cable tied before we collect it.

When should I close the lid?

It’s very important you don’t close the lid until it is full. To ensure biosecurity, once the lid is shut you will be unable to open it again.

Where should I store my Pharm-Binz?

You should always keep your Pharm-Binz somewhere safe. Avoid leaving them near animals or in places where they can be accessed by unauthorised personnel.

How do I know which Pharm-Binz to use?

We will always advise you which one will be best for your needs, but essentially:

7 litre bin: This is for sharps, including needles and blades.

50 litre bin: Use this for vials, antibiotics bottles, vaccines, expired medicines, wormer containers, dry cow tubes, syringes and vaccinators.

150 litre pharmaceutical bag: This can either be for wormer bottles and fly control containers with lids on, or used catheters only. You cannot mix catheters with any other waste products.

What measures do you take to ensure biosecurity is maintained on my farm?

When we collect we understand that biosecurity is vital, so we will contact you before to arrange collection and for the binz to be left in an appropriate place so not to compromise your biosecurity.

We will also never deliver new binz when we collect full binz because we do not want to risk any disease transfer.

Why do I have to store pharmaceutical waste separately?

Farmers have a legal duty to ensure all waste is disposed of legally so not to harm people and the environment. You must retain all duty of care waste transfer notes for three years, and we will do the same.
